NORTH SHADE TWP, MI β€” Police have released the names of a man and woman allegedly killed in a murder-suicide in Gratiot County.

Gratiot County Sheriff Michael A. Morris said Christopher Szafran, 22, shot and killed 23-year-old Reagan Torp in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 14.

About 3:25 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported homicide at a residence in the 8000 block of West Cleveland Road/M-57 in North Shade Township. They were summoned to the scene by a 34-year-old man who lived at the house, who had himself suffered a gunshot wound.

The man told deputies he and Torp, his girlfriend, were asleep inside when Szafran entered. Szafran fired two shots, killing Torp and delivering a grazing wound to the man’s head, deputies said.

Szafran then turned the gun on himself and fired, ending his life. First responders pronounced both Torp and Szafran deceased at the scene.

The wounded man received treatment for minor injuries.

Deputies determined Szafran had parked his vehicle nearby then walked to the house. He and Torp had been in a prior relationship, police said.

Torp was from Portland, Michigan, while Szafran was from St. Johns.

Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police and Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.
