The upcoming 2022 season for Indiana is arguably as important as any in the five years that Tom Allen has been head coach in Bloomington.
After reaching unprecedented success in 2019 and 2020, which resulted in back-to-back January bowl games, the Hoosiers tumbled back to the ground in 2021 with a 2-10 overall record and going winless against Big Ten opponents.
The underwhelming season led to a mass departure of players and coaches, with Allen having to quickly retool the roster and seek out stronger coaching staff hires. Entering the 2022 season, the Hoosiers will have more than 30 new faces on the roster — transfer or incoming freshman — along with five new assistant coaches, including new offensive coordinator Walt Bell and defensive coordinator Chad Wilt.
The hope for Allen and the program is that the influx of fresh talent and coaching minds will help to erase the stain left behind from last season, and instead prove the Hoosiers are more like their 2019-20 selves, rather than the letdown from a year ago.
With that, Peegs.com reporters Matt Weaver and Jared Kelly sat down to discuss Indiana’s 12-game schedule and give predictions as to how the Hoosiers season could play out.
