Neighborhood in shock after suspected murder-suicide of elderly couple 💥👩👩💥

An elderly couple died Thursday morning in what investigators believe is a murder-suicide.It happened at the couple’s home in the 84-hundred block of England street in Overland Park, Kansas, near Kansas City.Grim details surrounding the incident have been released to the public. The police detectives are gone now, and the crime scene tape has been removed. Investigators believe 87-year-old Frank Mayfield shot and killed his ailing wife Donna Mayfield, then turned the gun on himself.Investigators said the man sent an email to his children explaining his plans before the shooting. The news has been a disappointing shock to those that live nearby. “It’s a cheap way to go. I face demons every day, never thought about killing myself,” Neighbor Jon Coston said. Coston lives near where police say his neighbors died. The neighbor says about three weeks ago, he saw 87-year-old Donna Mayfield outside in a wheelchair. He has struggled with muscular dystrophy his whole life, including with walking.After seeing donna in a wheelchair, he wanted to talk to her. “Never got around to it. This is kind of heartbreaking,” Coston said. Investigators believe Frank Mayfield called 911 and said his wife had been shot. Ironically, the call came at 9:11 a.m. When police officers arrived, they found the garage door wide open. Upstairs, they found Donna Mayfield dead in a hospital bed and her husband just 5 to 10 feet away, also dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. “I do know there was a firearm that was in the area where the male was recovered,” Overland Park police officer John Lacy said in a press conference Thursday afternoon. The incident was unbeknownst to the neighborhood until police arrived. “Never thought it would happen this close, especially when I was outside and never heard one gunshot,” Coston said. Another neighbor who’s lived near the couple for 15 years says they were a sweet couple who loved each other and used to have cute dogs.The Mayfield’s son-in-law believes Frank Mayfield simply didn’t want to take care of his ailing wife any longer.
